Hosting of the 2023 Asian Townscape Awards
The Architecture & Urban Research Institute (AURI) hosted the “2023 Asian Townscape Awards” ceremony on Friday, November 17, at Gyeongam Hall, Seo-myeon, Busan.
The Asian Townscape Awards is an international townscape award held since 2010 to establish pleasant living conditions for all Asians. AURI has been a co-hosting organization of the award since 2020.
The finalists were selected through a national screening of Asian cities, and nine cities were chosen as winners by judges from five institutions. Applications from Korea came from various sectors, such as local government-led public projects, private projects, and broadcast programs. The project types also varied, encompassing urban landscapes, town landscapes, and landscapes of farming and fishing villages (architecture, urban regeneration). Winners from Korea were “Gucheon-myeon-ro Walkable Street Project (Gangdong-gu Office, Seoul),” “Hongdae Red Road Project (Mapo-gu Office, Seoul),” and “MBC I Want to Live in an Empty House in Fishing Villages - Empty House Regeneration Project (MBC).”
The nine winners received awards and gave acceptance speeches at the award ceremony, followed by an international exchange event with the participating countries.
