2023 AURI Housing Culture Forum-Korea-Japan Global Seminar
: Significance of Houses in Our Times and the Quest for a New Housing Culture, In Consideration of Future Housing

"2023 AURI Housing Culture Forum: Korea-Japan Global Seminar" was hosted by the Architecture & Urban Research Institute (AURI) on Thursday, September 21, at the Event Hall at the Jeongdong 1928 Art Center.

It is necessary to consider the paradigm shift of the 'house' and the future of housing to create living conditions that meet the needs of the changing times. As a part of the "Tomorrow's Housing" series, this seminar was held to share recent changes and issues in the housing cultures in Korea and Japan, where similar yet distinct housing cultures have been formed within the same era and cultural sphere, and discuss the future of housing.

The event began with the opening remarks from Cheol Ho Yeom, Vice President of AURI, followed by a keynote speech by Professor Mitsuo Takada at Kyoto University of Art and Design on "Housing Space of Today Picturing the Future." The first presentation was given by Eunyoung Seong, Director of AURI, on "Challenges to the Housing Culture Policy in Response to Changes in Living Conditions," and Professor Sungik Cho at Hongik University presented on "The Social Life of Single-Person Households," Nana Okui, CEO of Cift/Spuresto on "The Lifestyle Housing Experiment of the Century Attempted by a Family-like Community," and Sungjin Min, Principal Architect of SKM Architects, concluded this event with his presentation on "Meta-Farm Units: Greenhouses Using Future Agricultural Technology." Professor Mitsuo Takada, Director Eunyoung Seong, Professor Sungik Cho, CEO Nana Okui, and Principal Architect Seong Sungjin Min engaged in an animated discussion on housing in the future during the subsequent discussion session, which was moderated by Cheol Ho Yeom, Vice President of AURI.
