2023 AURI Global Seminar on Community Regeneration
: Practice-oriented Community Regeneration Reflecting the Process of Change

The Architecture & Urban Research Institute (AURI) held its "2023 AURI Global Seminar on Community Regeneration" on Thursday, September 7, at the Seoul Center for Architecture and Urbanism. An increasing number of policy initiatives on community regeneration have been attempting to verify the feasibility of their projects by experiencing trial and error in the planning stage as they employ various methodologies, such as tactical, transitional, guerilla urbanism, and DIY. After collaborating on a small-scale experimental project called "2022 Gunsan Angdongmacha Festa" last year, AURI and Cabanon Vertical hosted this year's seminar to foster effective policy ideas. This seminar also aimed to share information on the transitional urbanism experimental project, a part of the international exchange program, "Creating Small Spaces," initiated by the Institut Français, and discuss new attempts and ideas for community regeneration in Korea. 

Under the theme "Practice-oriented Community Regeneration Reflecting the Process of Change," this seminar aimed to provide insight into changing community circumstances and serve as an opportunity for further academic and policy research by sharing information on projects in implementation. The first presentation by Inah Jeong, Associate Research Fellow at AURI, focused on "Searching for Ways to Implement Social Innovation Experiments for Community Regeneration." This was followed by a second presentation by Olivier Bedu, Artistic Director of Cabanon Vertical, on "Methods and Practice of Transitional Urbanism using the Case of the NPNRU Les Cévennes, France." Soojeong Seo, Senior Research Fellow at AURI, and Emilie Jaguin, Designer of Cabanon Vertical, participated in the following roundtable session, where they led the discussion on "How to Implement Social Innovation Experiments for Community Change."
