‘Public Architecture Created by All Together’
The National Public Building Center of the Architecture and Urban Research Institute held the 2022 Public Architecture Forum on the 2nd floor of the Court Annex Building in Insa-dong, Seoul on Thursday, July 21st. Under the theme of 'Public Architecture Created by Everyone', this forum was an opportunity to explore institutional improvement directions by exploring what roles various entities, such as operators, users, architects, and administrators, should play and what governance structures should be established to create successful public architecture.
The event started with a keynote presentation on ‘Public Architecture for Everyone’ by Jo Seong-ryong, CEO of Jo Seong-ryong Urban Architecture. Subsequently, presentations and discussions were held by experts in each field related to the creation of public architecture.
As the first topic presentation, Lim Yoo-kyung, research fellow at the Architecture and Urban Research Institute, presented on the 'State of Public Architecture Creation and Related Tasks'. Second, Ji Jeong-woo, CEO of EUSPlus Architecture, provided a synopsis of 'Creating Public Architecture For and By the Next Generation'. Lastly, Yang Min-gu, secretary general of the Jeju Urban Regeneration Support Center, gave a talk on ‘Win-win Relationships between School Libraries and Village Libraries, a Case Study of the Kim Young-soo Library’.
In the roundtable discussion that followed, Professor Kang Mi-sun of Ewha Womans University chaired a debate featuring Professor Kim Jeong-bin of the University of Seoul, Park Ki-beom, Head of the Architecture and Culture Department of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Shim Han-byeol, Senior Researcher at Seoul National University's Asian Urban Society Center, and Jang Jin-woo, Head of the Design Development Team of Suwon City Urban Design Team. Current issues surrounding public architecture such as architectural planning, design competitions, and private experts were discussed.
