2022 Aging-Friendly Community Policy Forum

‘Preview of the Korean CCRC’


The Architecture and Urban Research Institute and the Presidential Committee on Low Birth Rates and Aging Society held the 2022 Aging-Friendly Community Policy Forum on July 15 (Fri) at the Myeongdong Community House ‘Mashil’ in Seoul. Under the theme of 'Preview of the Korean CCRC', this forum attempted to explore the importance and direction of the K-CCRC in response to a super-aged society and Korean-style residential welfare through cooperation between the welfare and architectural city sectors in Korea.

The event started with an opening address by Park Jin-kyung, secretary general of the Presidential Committee on Low Birth Rates and Aging Society, and a welcome speech by Lee Young-beom, director of the Architecture and Urban Research Institute, followed by case presentations and discussions by field experts.

As the first case presentation, Kim Jong-bin, Director of Social Developer Group ‘Do More’, presented on the ‘apartment-type village community model’, and for the second case presentation, Kim Jeong-seok, head of the Good Neighbors Future Foundation, introduced the ‘Korean-style senior residential community model’. Last but not least, Moon Gwang-ho, the head of the Government Employees Pension Service, explained the ‘retirement community village model’.

Following the case presentation, Jeong Soon-dul, head of the Institute for Age-Integrated Aging Society at Ewha Womans University, chaired a discussion featuring Go Young-ho, Research Fellow at the Architecture and Urban Research Institute, Ki No-chae CEO of the Korea Housing and Urban Cooperative Federation, Han Eun-hwa, reporter for JoongAng Daily Newspaper, Lee Jung-ki, head of the Housing Welfare Support Division of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Lee Yun-shin, director of the Senior Policy Division of the Ministry of Health and Welfare to discuss the necessity of a Korean-style residential welfare-linked care village as part of the response to Korea’s aging society and the importance of collaboration between sectors.
