‘Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Architectural Asset Promotion Policy Implementation Status and Tasks’

The Architecture and Urban Research Institute and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province held the 2022 1st AURI-Local Regional Architectural Asset Promotion Policy Symposium at the Jeju Literature Center on July 15 (Fri). This symposium was envisaged as a venue to introduce the architectural asset policies promoted by Jeju Special Self-Governing Province over the past five years and discuss the direction of future policy implementation under the theme of ‘The Current Status and Tasks of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province’s Architectural Asset Promotion Policies’.

The event began with a welcome speech by Governor Oh Young-hoon and congratulatory remarks by Director Lee Young-beom. In the first part, a topic presentation was given on the status of the architectural asset policy of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, and the second part consisted of a roundtable discussion.

In the first part of the topic presentation, Professor Kim Tae-il of Jeju National University presented on the 'The Utilization of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province’s Basic Survey and Current Status of Registration Promotion'. Second, Yang Geon, director of Gau Architecture, introduced ‘Outstanding Architectural Assets in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and Promotion of Architectural Asset Promotion Zones’. Lastly, Yang Chang-hwon, head of the Jeju Architectural Intelligence Division, offered a synopsis of the ‘Status and Tasks of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Architectural Asset Promotion Implementation Plan’.

The second half consisted of the general discussion and was led by Professor Woo Dong-seon of Korea National University of Arts. Professor Woo led a discussion on 'Achievements and Tasks of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province's Architectural Asset Promotion Policy.' Lee Kyu-cheol, Associate Research Fellow at the Architecture and Urban Research Institute, Park Ki-beom, Head of the Architecture and Culture Department of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Kim Yong-mi, former architect-in-chief of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, participated in the discussion.
